Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, grandmother, and her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. When she was a little girl, Catherine Ford struggled with an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered from anxiety due to the word"association. Ford's passion for acting started when she was young. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School for a short time but Ford realized it was not the right venue for her. Ford instead applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall - who later played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of Ford's classmates. Ford was not able to graduate until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate also performed regularly in theatres, before eventually becoming a member of in the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up humor that she started adding to her set in 1996, soon gained her attention.
